The Fourth Presbyterian Church on bustling Michigan Ave. in Chicago was in need of a revitalized way to interact with the public street, to invite people in with an attractive and welcoming accessibility. It was decided that the garth should be one area of focus, the other being the creation of a small street corner plaza and extensive sidewalk planting beds.

The garth, and the planting beds between it and the street, were replanted with evergreen ground cover and shrubs, spring flowering bulbs, and small flowering trees.  A new walkway of bluestone pavers was laid along the perimeter of the garth, highlighting the beautiful central fountain.  The new street corner plaza was constructed around a large existing Honey Locust tree, augmented by new evergreen shrubs and groundcover surrounding.  Bluestone pavers and spare and elegant rectangular stone benches provided seating for church goers and weary shoppers alike, blending the church with the city around it.
